Elnora Mitchell Smith was born December 20, 1937 in Waterford, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Hiawatha Mitchell and Magnolia Mitchell.


Elnora was a faithful member (35 years+) of Zion Tabernacle under the Leadership of Suffragan Bishop Thomas Griffith and the late Bishop Joseph Farris. Additionally, she served on the Nursing Guild for a number of years. Elnora was a faithful member of Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church until her death.


Elnora was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System in Indianapolis, Indiana. Elnora attended Arsenal Tech High School and Graduated, she later attended Indiana Nursing School and received her license for a Licensed Practical Nursing. Elnora was employed at Robert Long Hospital (IU Hospital) as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years until she became disable and had to retire early. Elnora was the first Resident of the Bishop Joseph D. Farris Senior Living Center, what a blessing and a happy day that was to be a part of the Ribbon cutting service.


Elnora enjoyed traveling in her younger days reading books and she loved to read her Bible on a daily basis. Elnora favorite times were watching  movies with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandkids. Elnora was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and great grandmother.


Elnora was preceded in death by her two sons, Dewayne, James (Junebug) Smith and granddaughter, Charlotte Parks. Elnora departed her earthly life March 28, 2021 at the age 83, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter at her bedside.


Elnora leave to cherish her memory daughter, Debra Townsend Rainey; sister, Alberta Weathers; grandchildren, Anthony, Melody, and a (set of triplets) Ashley, Amber, and Angel Sanders; great grandchildren, Lyric, Harmoni, Musiq, Makhi, Melanie, Rhythm, Jamie, Michael, Alicia, Dewayne, and host of nieces, nephews family and friends.


Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

My deepest condolences to the Smith family. Sister Smith's bright smile, sense of humor, laughter, and personality will be truly missed. She was a ray of sunshine but now she is rejoicing pain free with the God who she loved.
