Obituary

Georgia Greta Mae James-Harris was born on August 22, 1935, to George James and Blanche Stewart James, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She received her formal education through the Indianapolis Public School System, graduating from George Washington High School.

"Greta” or “Gret”, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age.  She became a member at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized on July 24, 2005.

Thomas Eugene Harris and Greta united in marriage on October 5, 1957.  The two lived a happy life together until June 19, 1966 when Eugene    departed this life.

Greta was a devoted and hard worker.  After receiving training and certification from the Indiana Vocational Technical College, Greta dedicated more than 40 years to providing quality customer service. She worked for W. T. Grant, William H. Block and J. C. Penney retail department stores for many years. In her leisure time, Greta enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and watching her favorite  TV shows.

Greta was a loving, caring and kind woman who always helped others.  She loved kids and being with family and friends.  She was known to be waiting at the school bus stop to assure the kids from the neighborhood made it safely on and off the school busses.  The kids loved Greta, and they called her "Bus Stop Granny". Greta always showed up early for family gatherings, just to lend a helping hand.

Georgia Greta Mae James Harris departed this life on December 27, 2020, at the age of 85 years 4 months and 5 days.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eugene Harris; parents; sister, Rosetta Mills and brother, Thomas James.

She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, Deloris B. James Bebley, Victor (Elnora) James, Darrell James, Brenda L. James Dixon, Michael L. James, Ruth L. James, Richard James, Robert James, June "Judy" James, Carolyn James Jackson and Diane James Beard, and three generations of nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and other beloved extended family, neighbors, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church family and many friends.

So very sorry to hear of Greta's passing. We have many photos of her as she was our babysitter at birth. May God keep you in his loving hands as you go through this time.
