Ralph Wesley Adams Jr., affectionately known as “Juggie, Uncle Jug, or Daddy Ralph” to his family, departed this life on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the age of 69. Born September 6, 1951 to Ralph Wesley Adams Sr. and Alice Rose Burnett Adams, he was the brother of John Adams (Connie), Michael Adams, David Adams (Jacqueline), Jeffrey Adams, Rodney Adams (Carol), and Marsha Kirk. He attended Holy Angels Catholic Church as a child, where he also completed primary school. A 1969 graduate of Cardinal Ritter High School, he was drafted at the age of 19 and served 24 years and 1 month in the United States Air Force before retiring in 1995. During his time in the Air Force, he served at Chanute AFB, Illinois; Incirlik CDL, Turkey; McGuire AFB, New Jersey; Zweibrucken AB, Germany; Minot AFB, North Dakota; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; and Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He earned an Associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Wisconsin after his military retirement.

Post military service, he worked for the City of Indianapolis in the Office of Minority & Women’s Business Development as the Business Enterprise Officer, where he retired in 2017, and up until his passing, worked for the State of Indiana in the Division of Supplier Diversity as the Deputy Director of Certification.

He was the most loving and amazing father of Timika Adams-Sherman (James), KeShauna Adams Davis (Wendell Sr.), and Jayson Adams. He was the fun loving and awesomely proud grandfather of Wendell Davis Jr., Kiarré Sherman, Joshua Davis, Amari Sherman, Orandé Sherman, Kellen Davis, and Teela Hedrick. In addition to his brothers, children, and grandchildren, he leaves behind his aunts, Francis Haywood, Virginia Burnett, and Avamaria Burnett-Garner, and uncles, Phillip Burnett, Frederick Burnett, and Christopher Burnett, as well as former spouses Claudette Dale and Cozetta Hedrick-Adams, and a very large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

An athlete to the very end, he played basketball, baseball, football, and softball over his lifetime. He enjoyed nothing more than playing softball and watching his grandchildren play sports. In addition to sports, he loved a sale, a good smelling cologne, and Invicta watches. He had a great sense of humor and a willingness to help anyone. He was a giver of his time, resources, energy, attention, affection, and knowledge.

Although he will be greatly missed by all who cared for him, his family takes comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his mother and father, brother Michael, and sister Marsha in heaven. He will rest in eternity next to his mother at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Ralph was a great friend. We worked together and he caused me to be hired by the City at the Office of Minority & Women Business Development, in the Mayor's Office. We both played sports together, starting at around 10 years old. Later, we both were members of the all-star baseball team for Riverside Park: where we won the City Championship two straight years in a row. Ralph was a man I admired my whole life. He was a man, a good man. He is irreplaceable as a best friend. I mourn the loss of Ralph as if he was my big brother, too. Because, in my mind, he was.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ralph while working in alumni relations at Cardinal Ritter. He was an amazing individual who truly cared about others and always enjoyed a good conversation about sports! Dear Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I pray that you will give yourself the grace to grieve and know that God will not leave or forsake you. He's there when you cry from sadness, laugh from the memories, scream with hurt and anger, and exhale with the knowledge that God's got you through it all!!
