Obituary

Isaac “Ike” Jones, son of the late Isaiah and Mildred Jones, was born on January 22, 1926. He was the second-eldest of six children born to this union, all of whom preceded him in death; Genevieve Frazier, Robert Jones, Virgil Jones, Marilee Walker and Bobby Lee Jones.

Isaac passed on Friday, December 6, 2019, after a long stay at Creekside Rehabilitation Center, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was 93 years, ten months, and 16 days, truloy blessed with the breath of life.

Mr. Jones attended Indianapolis Public Schools No. 17 and Crispus Attucks High School. He was a devoted fan of the reputable 1950’s Crispus Attucks High School basketball team.  He was very proud to have been part of this historical high school and he continued to support their basketball teams for many years.

Isaac contributed his military service to our Country’s Defense during the year 1953.  He married Anna Sansbury on July 16 of that same year.  Anna preceded him in death in January of 2014. Their union  lasted 60 years, 6 months and 9 days until her death.  Isaac had one daughter, Ms. Deitra Elaine Booker, and she also antedated her father in death.

Brother Jones accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church until his death.  Both Isaac and his wife Anna worked in the church and were loved by the congregation. Brother Jones was appreciated and rewarded for his dedicated service to Mount Olive and the Trustee Board.

Mr. Jones worked for American Can Company until his retirement. He would later work for his cousin, the late Joseph W. Summers, at Summers Funeral Chapels. He became well known, well liked and truly respected due to his service for both. Uncle Isaac appreciated a friendly game of poker and loved to have his family and friends around him.

Isaac leaves to cherish his memory; his grandchildren, Paxton Montgomery (Lena) and Precious Miller; great-grandchildren, Aurelia Dixon, Lorine Dixon, Don Hughes, Byron Miller, Shante’ Wims, Devonia Holland, Elijah Booker; and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family, the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church family and many, many friends.
