Ms. Nancy Jo Anderson, second daughter of John Gilbert Anderson and Gladys Laverne Smith Anderson, was born February 9,1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Nancy was baptized at the Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church at an early age by Rev. Dr. C. Henry Bell, where she sang in the Junior Choir and taught Sunday School for many years.  She later united with the Eastern Star Church at the Cooper Road location.

She received her formal education in the Indianapolis Public School System at Francis W. Parker School #56 and #66. She then attended Broad Ripple High School. She later pursued a Bachelor of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and continued her pursuit of higher education at Butler  University earning a Master of Science in Language Arts.

Nancy began her teaching career at Northwest High School as a student teacher and then to St Joan of Arc, where she taught several years. Her teaching career spanned many years at various schools in the Indianapolis Public School System at George Washington High School, Cold Spring Academy, School #60, Shortridge High School and Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Arts and  Humanities, retiring in December of 2016.

Nancy’s favorite hobbies were gardening, cooking, but her main love was reading and teaching. She adored children, often filling the void as a second mom, but those she adored most in the world, were her precious nephews, Chris “Bill” and Jeff “Mookie” and niece, Tina, and new reading partner in crime, Aniyah. She loved helping her students learn to use their minds and imaginations to escape through the adventures of books.  Her favorite book was To Kill A Mockingbird. She enjoyed teaching it to her freshman class at Broad Ripple. Nancy was an organ donor, who donated her corneas so some recipient would have the gift of prolonged sight.

Nancy was an old school gal who loved old music (Motown, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross and Roberta Flack,) and old school television, faithfully watched The Andy Griffith Show, Laverne and Shirley and The Carol Burnett Show. She even loved old time religion, preferring the old hymns and anthems, and when choirs still marched into the sanctuary and the "Lord's Prayer" was sung every Sunday.  She was a member of the Neil Marshall Alumni Association, the Butler University Alumni Association and the Indiana State Teachers Association.

Nancy departed this life on Sunday, May 19,2019, at the age of 64 years. She leaves to cherish her memories her two sisters, Gilda Jean Anderson Chubb and Karen Anderson; two nephews, Min. Christopher M (Tina) and Jeffrey A. Chubb; niece, Aniyah; her lifelong friends, Mrs. Jackie Roddy Rice and Mrs. Gloria Jean    Pillow Washington, many cousins and her teacher friends and pupils.

To comfort the family of the loss of someone that you all have loved.I know that you and your loved one meant so much to each other. And she will truly be missed by friends, students and neighbors who knew her. May the God of all comfort, comfort you each day of your grieving. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 The Bible speaks of a time when our loved ones will reunite with us. Jesus comforting words at John 5:28 " all those in the memorial tombs will come out...." ( will be resurrected ). Again, I'm so sorry for your loss of Nancy. With Sympathy,
