William Roddie, Jr. was born in Plattsburg, Missouri, on  July 6, 1944.  The son of Hattie Cook-Roddie and William Roddie, Sr., he was raised by his aunt, Dorothy Grayson.  As a young teenager with a desire to change his life, William  became a student at Job Corps and learned cooking as a trade.

William began his work career in Columbus, Indiana with Cummins and Arvin’s briefly; however, his biggest aspiration was to be in business for himself. William began his own janitorial       company by cleaning churches and office buildings.  He grew the business to obtain governmental cleaning contracts. Through his efforts he employed over 250 people and produced a way for them to engage a better life.

Children and young people had a special place in his heart. William organized many events to include skating parties, trips to Kings Island, and car washes to help raise money for church         youth activities.

William was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Brenda Roddie, who he married on October 16, 1982, and his daughter, Teresa Roddie.

William Roddie, Jr. departed this earthly life on December 3, 2017, at the age of seventy-three years four months and twenty-eight days.  His survivors include sisters, Bertha               Cunningham, Debbie Anderson, Willa Pritchett,Velma Brown and Regina Rawlings; brothers, Lee and Brian Grayson and his surviving children, Elliott Roddie (Linda Roddie), Steven Roddie (Patty  Roddie), Kelly Roddie, Dietta Roddie and Keia Roddie; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, other relatives and loved ones.

I didn't really know you well I just recently found out you were my mom's brother Debbie Roddie-Turner but your family so that's what matters. As my mom always reminds me life is short and family is important thru this unfortunate situation I hope to connect with family. I will keep you all in my prayers taking solace that we all one day will be together in heaven.

I got to work with Bill for the last 2 years, so we got to interact 4 days a week most every week. We talked about life, family and life challenges. Smiling Bill never failed to make the day a little better with his work ethic and humility. My life will be salted with a number of fine people and I will always remember Bill as being that salt. Godspeed my friend.
