The Beginning-
Mary Elizabeth Ellison was born the eighth child on March 22,1918 in Augusta, Georgia to Asbury Ellison and Lois Childs. She was dotingly nicknamed “Babe” by her older siblings.

The Dash-
Mary came to Indianapolis, Indiana as a young child and at a early age a professed her dedication and devotion to Christ and became a member of First Baptist Church North Indianapolis, under Rev. Young. She worshipped and fellowshipped at FBCNI through the tenure of Rev. Bradley and Dr. Ivan Hicks for nearly 85yrs until her health declined.
Mary attended IPS elementary schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks HS. After completion of high school, she attended and graduated from Madame CJ Walker Beauty School. She then left Indianapolis and went to Muncie, Indiana and pursued her cosmetology career and attended Ball State Teacher’s College. She graduated with a degree in elementary education while she Marcel curled a lot of heads. While in Muncie, she delivered at least one baby Michael, and recovered more family. After graduation from now BSU, she returned to Indianapolis to Butler University to complete her Masters Degree in Elementary Education .  She joined Sigma Gamma Rho and enjoyed every aspect of her sorority sisterhood from round-ups to conventions and Boules across the country.
While in Indianapolis she continued to be active with church, family, community, education and with mission duties. She enjoyed learning and teaching of God’s love, and she studied daily to “show thy self approve”.  She enjoyed showing God’s love and did this in action and deed and in every aspect of her personal life as a role model and example. She continued to stress the importance of God, education, family and mission. At FBNI she was a member of the Sr. Missionary Group and participated in many activities. She especially loved her mission endeavors in Haiti and traveled to Haiti several times and shared her life, love and experiences with the church and her Haitian family, the “Etienne’s”, 13 siblings. She helped deliver Edisson and she assisted with their education and family events throughout their lives.
She loved to read, sew, travel and entertain. She was a member and stayed active with many clubs. She volunteered with the Little Red Door and  with IUPUI social services. For IUPUI she took in social workers from around the globe and shared our culture. She later had the pleasure to visit some of them in Japan, South Africa, Lesotho, and other places. She also traveled to the Holy Land, Trinidad, Bahamas, South America, Dominican Republic,  and so many other places and states in the union, even taking her last generation of grandchildren to a July 4 parade in Washington DC, that lasted over 4 hours.
She loved family, and although she had not biological children, she helped with a many generations of families. There are way too many to name, at least 50 children she loved as her own for a season.

The End-
Mary kept her pleasant spirit but departed this life on November 30, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her family and her loving sisters, Georgiana and Nancie Ellison, and a host of friends and family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her granddaughters, Ronda (Douglas) Pearson and Ashley Brown; Godchildren, James “Devin” Majors, DeRon “Boo” Brown, Rev. Jean Etienne (Edison), Corey Biven,  and a host of other relatives and friends.
