Rufus Alexander Elam was born October 5, 1914, in Lafayette, Kentucky to Robert and Lucy Elam.  He was the youngest of thirteen children and the last survivor.  Rufus moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he later met and was united in marriage to Esther Pauline Williamson.  They had three children and he was a mentor to many boys and girls.
Rufus was a Scout master with Troop 450.  He also taught Sunday school for many years.  He loved his church, Penick Chapel, and never missed a Sunday until his later years.  He was a member of the men’s church choir and served as a steward and later became the pastor’s stewart   Rufus was also a founding member of the 4C’s Civil Cervice Conservation Club.
He worked for Tanner Trucking Company and Hubbel Metals retiring as a sheet metal worker.  Rufus continued to work even after his retirement because he loved to work.  He would even cut grass for friends and help in any way that he could.
Rufus adored his grand children.  They all called him Pawpaw.  The girls where Pawpaw’s girls and his grandson was Bigun.
The last four years he was cared for by the beautiful ladies at Angels Adult Care. Rufus departed this earth on June 19, 2012, and made his transition to his heavenly home.  He truly loved the Lord.  He leaves to cherish his precious memory his children, Andrea Elam, William Elam, and Jon Elam (Leslie); grandchildren, Stephanie Spaulding, Rhonda Spaulding, Leland Keyt-Elam, Nicole Elam, Ashley Glover (Cameron), Justin Elam, Jolene Elam, and Jessica White; great-grandchildren, Shaina Neal, Andrew Black, Cedric Milligan, Londyn Glover, and Cameron Glover, Jr., many nieces, nephews, family, friends, neighbors, and countless others whose life he has touched.
