JoAnne Gennette Stewart Johnson was born to the late Jesse and Mattie B. Carnell Stewart on August 27, 1939 in Port Royal, Tennessee. 

            Gennette, as she was fondly called, professed a hope in Christ at an early age.  She was baptized and attended South Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She loved the Lord and red her bible daily. 

Gennette attended Harry E. Wood High School.  She was employed in sales at H.P. Wasson Department Store downtown. 

In 1959, Gennette married her neighborhood sweetheart, Marvin Ray Johnson.  Three wonderful sons were born from this union.  Gent loved her family and never met a stranger.  She was a housewife and wonderful cook.  You could be assured a complete meal was prepare every holiday.  She raised four generations of children including her own grandchildren, in addition, Gennette opened up her home and cared for disabled adolescents.  She did all this with a smile on her face. 

JoAnne Gennette Johnson departed this life on May 17, after a thirteen day stay at Methodist Hospital.  Her parents, a sibling, Jesse Wayne Stewart, her husband, Marvin Ray Johnson; two sons, Darrell Edward and Roger Wayne Johnson all preceded her in death. 

Cherishing her memory is her devoted son, Jeffrey Ray Johnson; brothers, Ray Dean Stewart (Cynthia), Jason Torrell Stewart; a sister, Latonia Stewart; grandchildren, Darrell     Edward II, DaNae Johnson, and Dwight Todd; a loving mother-in-law, Evelyn Johnson; sister-in-laws, Clentis McClendon (Allen) and W. Fay Walker a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Please know that you are very much on our minds and in our thoughts and prayers..You're mom was such a dear, sweet lady and I enjoyed sharing with you both over the years. I will continue pray for you, but know that you always have a shoulder here to cry on when you need it.
Continue to honor God with your service and talents and he will see you through this, Jeff.
