The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. (Psalms 37:23)

John Edmond Baker Sr. was born November 15, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Adeline Harper Baker and Rev. John David Baker, Sr.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John David Baker Jr.; one grandson, John Edmond Baker, Ill; one nephew, Aaron Baker Carter and one brother-in-law, Hillard Aaron Carter.  He was educated in the Indiana Public School System and later attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  Afterwards, he enlisted in the U. S. Army.  Upon his return to Indianapolis, he later became employed by Detroit Allison Division of General Motors Corporation.  Being a man of principle and integrity, he modeled the same Christian character on the job for 44 years.

At a young age he confessed Christ and joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church of Indianapolis.  Years later, he joined Greater Galilee Institutional Missionary Baptist; Mt. Moriah Baptist and Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church. He loved Greater Saint Mark MBC, where he served as a former Trustee, Deacon and   Sunday School Instructor.  He loved Pastor Joy Thornton and served at Greater Saint Mark MBC untiringly until his health began to fail.  He likewise enjoyed sharing the Gospel with the brotherhood/laymen of the Indianapolis Union District.  And, over the years he shared Christ in many jail and correctional facilities.

John met and married the former Joyce (Booker) Huguley on June 28,1981.  This union lasted for over 37 years.

On Thursday morning, May 9, 2019.
