Yolanda Faye Johnson was born October 30, 1965 to the union of Glenda Peyton and the late George A. Johnson, Jr. She departed this life peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. She was called Faye, Yo Yo, Yolanda, Yolanda Faye, and was affectionately known as “G-Ma” by her grandchildren.
Faye accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. Her faith reflected acts of love and generosity toward all. She was a committed member of the Bible Study Fellowship Group (BSF), which strengthened her faith and trust in God as she experienced His grace and mercy in her life. She graduated from Lawrence Central High School and IU Bloomington. She was a life-long learner taking various classes into adulthood.
A former Respiratory Therapist at Community East Hospital, Faye worked until health challenges caused her to retire. Not being one to sit still very long, she became a Certified Licensed Limo Driver, of which her dad, Charles Peyton, likes to take credit for her driving skills.
Faye always had a book, crossword puzzle, or sudoku somewhere near her. She loved to travel-specially to warm climates. As long as she had her trusted friend Nikki by her side or she was meeting her beloved Aunt Tempy, she always had faith that she would be okay, despite her medical issues. And so did her family. She kept abreast of current events and enjoyed a good political conversation. Faye was an avid sports fan and as a youth, she was a bowler. She learned to play golf with her dad, Charles, at Frederick Douglas Golf Course. She learned the rules of different sports either by attending in person or watching on TV with her dad and mom and could hold her own in sports talk.
Faye was preceded in death by grandparents, Roger and Mary Sherrod of Tennessee and Mark and Ora Peyton of Indianapolis.
She leaves to cherish her memories daughter Briannda White, son Kurtis White, Jr (India), mother Glenda Peyton, father Charles Peyton, two granddaughters, LaNaiya White and Zuri, four grandsons, Xavier White, Levi White, Javontae Grant, and Chaise Grant, brothers Gregory and Gerald Farmer, sisters Lea and Georgia Johnson, a devoted Aunt Tempy, three aunts in Tennessee, six aunts in Indianapolis, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as other relatives and special friends.
