WILLIE MAE ATKINS

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, our Heavenly Father called our loved one, Ms. Willie "Mae" Atkins-Street, to the land of peace, joy, and contentment.

Affectionately called "Mae", she was born on January 26, 1952, in Columbus, Mississippi to the late Walter "Son" Harris and Fannie Mae Heavens-Bell. She was lovingly adopted and raised by her grandparents, Jep and Eliza Harris, in the Plum Grove community of Columbus, Mississippi. She attended R. E. Hunt High School in Columbus, Mississippi. Mae was the eldest of eleven siblings.

In 1972, Mae made her home in East St. Louis, Missouri before relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1982. Mae eventually relocated back to St. Louis, Missouri in 1993. She was a dedicated and enthusiastic worker. Mae was employed by Stouffer's   Hotel Inc. and Federal Reserve Bank from 1975 until 1981. In addition, she worked as the Concierge at St. Louis Airport Renaissance Hotel for thirty years. Mae loved her work   position. She met people from all over the world and enjoyed talking to them.

At an early age, Mae accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi. She enjoyed attending church and loved her church family. While in St. Louis, Missouri she faithfully attended East Side Missionary Baptist Church for more than thirty years, where she cherished the love, fellowship, and support of her church family.

Mae was united in marriage to Michael Atkins, and they were blessed with two children and they were her WORLD. Mae was a devoted and passionate mother to Melisa “Lisa" Dixon and Johnie B. “Fresh” Harris. She cherished and adored her children, grandchildren, and entire progeny. Her family was the center of her life, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She provided knowledge, guidance, and compassion to all who came in contact with her.

Those that were acquainted with Mae, knew that she was a trend setter.  She was truly a “Fashionista”, an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and exploring different states. She loved riding motorcycles, taking sightseeing car rides, and loved anything outdoors.

Mae was preceded in death by her baby boy, Johnie Harris; grandson, Isiah Harris; father, Walter "Son" Harris; mother, Fannie Mae Bell; her beloved grandparents and adoptive parents, Jep and Eliza Harris; sisters, Reta Bell and Loretta Bell-Johnson, and brothers, William Dean Bell, McKinley “Mackey" Bell, and Billy Ray Bell.

Her precious memories will be cherished and eternally remembered by her husband, Leland Street; her daughters, Melisa “Lisa" Dixon and Marquetta (Anthony) Wise; her daughter-in-love, Monique Conn-Harris; seven grandchildren, Devon Harris, Sr., Derrick Dixon, Briana Harris, Diamond Harris, Dominick Harris, Myla Dixon, and   Destinee Harris; seven great-grandchildren; five siblings, Donald (Graciela) Bell, Ronald Bell, Patricia (Kelvin) Molton, Ricky Lee Bell, and Lashonda (Dwayne) Lemelle, and sister-in-law, Judy Bell; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and dear friends including her special cousin, Lue Jean Heaven Cromity and Helen Harris Mullins.

Willie "Mae" will be remembered for her steadfast faith, kind heart, and the warmth and joy she shared with everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
