Mr. William Henry Ingram Jr., gained his wings on March 4, 2026, at age 76, peacefully at home surrounded by family. William was born May 7, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Henry Sr. Ingram and Laura Louise Myers-Minor Ingram.
This is a tribute to William, better known as ‘Bill’ to those who knew him. William gave his life to God at an early age and belonged to Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church, where his maternal grandmother Mrs. Laura Belle Meyers-Bingham was one of the founding members.
He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bill pursued many career paths and worked for the State of Indiana for many years serving in many capacities.
Bill respectfully served as Sergeant in The United States Army as a First-Class Drill Instructor. He also served as Personal Head of Security detail for former First Lady Susan Bayh and Governor Evan Bayh, and former Attorney Generals Pamela Carter, Jeff Modisett, and Karen Freeman-Wilson. He worked as Assistant Chief for the United States Capitol Police and He also worked as a Police Officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He was an Oil Truck Driver, an Asphalt Layer, an Investigator for the Family and Social Services Administration Compliance Department, and also proudly owned Ingram Construction Company. Bill would retire in 2009.
On April 5, 1986, William married Coleen Parran in Indianapolis, Indiana and has since shared a lifetime together. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who overcame challenges and still instilled values in his children. His family was his pride and joy, and his greatest role in his life was providing for his family. He showed unconditional love to his family and was a hard-working man. He loved working with his hands on anything that had to do with wood. Whenever someone needed something built or fixed, you could always count on Bill. He had every tool you could name and was the ultimate handyman. Bill was dedicated to his family and valued life’s simple pleasures like watching old cowboy and western shows. He would sit and watch them all day.
He loved music and hanging out with family and friends during holidays and birthday celebrations. He was always a person you could count on and didn’t hesitate to help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Bill balanced a successful career, commitment to God, all while cherishing time with his family.
His legacy lives on through generations who will remember his kindness and love.
