WILLIAM “BILL” ARTHUR SMITH

William Arthur Smith went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Resurrection Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, at the age of 72. William was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 20, 1950, to Wardell Sr. and Ruth (Terry).

William first gave his life to Christ at Lanier Baptist Church, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 10.  He was a member of Light of the World Christian Church for 40 years. After remission from cancer, William transitioned due to natural causes.

William first moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend Marian University on a basketball scholarship. After graduation from Marian University, William was inducted into the first class of Wall of Fame inductees and later earned the Marian University community service award.

William entered the field of education earning a Master of Education degree from Indiana University. He spent his life dedicated to serving the community through programs such as Tech 300 at Arsenal Technical High School, The Urban League, Indianapolis Public Schools Back to School Parade, Celebration of Hope, Mozell Sanders Food Drive, Lilly Endowment, and Marian University.

He also enjoyed attending the Indiana Black Expo and Circle City Classic each year and a trip to Jazz Fest with his wife Juanita. Family was very important to William. He enjoyed attending family reunions with the Smith, Ramsey, and Dunlap-McMillans.

William leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Monica Goodwin (Carl), Aaron Smith (Kiah), his grandchildren Caitlin Goodwin, Caleb Goodwin, and Asher Arthur Smith, his siblings, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and wife Juanita Dunlap-Smith.
