Mr. William Joseph Guynn was born June 24, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to his parents, Morris and Bessie Guynn. He was the fourth child of five siblings. His parents, brothers, Maurice and Robert Guynn, and his only sister, Rita Guynn Douglass, all preceded him in death.
Early Life And Service
William was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He was brought into full communion with the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist and was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. He received his primary education at St. Rita School which was located near his childhood residence on Hovey Street. It was in this neighborhood, that he met his childhood friend and the love of his life, Julia Guynn.
William graduated from Cathedral High School in 1951. Following his graduation, he chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. During his time in Germany, he was assigned to medical operations, where he worked to enhance care delivery for military personnel. Bill’s dedication and service concluded in an honorable discharge as a Private First Class in 1954. Upon returning home after his military service, Bill and Julia continued to strengthen their relationship. Their enduring commitment to one another led to their union in Holy Matrimony on November 12, 1960.
William was dedicated to his faith and actively contributed to both the church and his local community. He maintained membership with the Knights of Peter Claver, St. Rita Council #97, where he participated on multiple committees.
Employment
William’s dedication to service is evident throughout his employment history. In each role he undertook, including positions at Kroger, Allison Transmissions, and the General Motors Corporation, he consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. During his tenure at General Motors, he applied himself diligently and contributed significantly to the organization. He retired from General Motors after 33 years of service.
Family Life
William, affectionately known as Bill, Billy, Daddy and Grandpa, loved spending time with family. He enjoyed watching westerns, college sports, talk shows, QVC, the weather channel and politics. His most beloved activity was eating food. Grandpa was the food critic of the family and often willing to travel to try new restaurants. He treasured each moment with his beloved Julia, who preceded him in death.
Mr. William Joseph Guynn departed this earthly life to receive his Heavenly reward on Thursday, November 13, 2025. He was ninety-two years, four months, and twenty days of age at the time of his passing. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted children: Brian J. (Tina) Guynn, Jarett D. Guynn, Elizabeth A. Guynn, and Denise R. Guynn. His legacy will continue through his two granddaughters, Patrice N. Guynn and Brittany L. (Nicholas) Pulliam. William was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Madison Pulliam, who brought him much joy in his later years. He is also survived by his brother, Curtis Guynn, and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Guynn, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
