VICTORIA "LANI" VOLZ Obituary

With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Victoria Mahealani “Lani” Volz, a vibrant soul whose warmth and spirit touched many lives. Lani was born in California on December 9, 1961. She was the sixth child born into an Air Force family and spent much of her youth living abroad in the Philippines, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Experiences that shaped her into the uniquely cultured and eclectic woman so many adored.

Lani was a social butterfly - bright, humorous, and endlessly outgoing. She had an effortless way of making people feel welcomed and included wherever she went. She was genuinely funny, with sharp wit and a laugh that was as contagious as her spirit.

She was also a gifted storyteller. Lani had a natural talent for captivating those around her. She truly never met a stranger, and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life was one of her most endearing and beautiful qualities.

Lani pursued formal training in the culinary arts at Ivy Tech Community College and spent her professional life in the food and beverage hospitality industry. She worked at popular hotels and restaurants around town, including the Mariott, Conrad, Bertolinis and the Rathskeller.  She worked at many major local conventions, and proudly contributed her talents to the Indianapolis Colts, working every home game in the Colts press box for many years. Her spunky energy and genuine kindness left lasting impressions with people.

Lani also loved reading and was never far away from her Kindle. An unofficial mother-daughter book club was created with her three daughters and the girls were always ready to answer her regular inquiry of “so what are you reading now?” Thriller novels were always a favorite and no plot twist went undiscussed.

After raising her own four children, one of the most exciting and joyful chapters of Lani’s life began, and that was becoming a grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her immense pride, laughter, and purpose. She embraced her role as “Tutu” and was never shy to tell a story or share a photo of her adored grandbabies.

Lani will be remembered for her love for her family & friends, her sense of humor, and the way she made life more entertaining for everyone around her. Her ability to make strangers feel like old friends wherever she went was truly a gift.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mona Thomas, her sister, Thea Pecqueur, and her brother, Ray Warwick.

She is survived by her four loving children: Kekoa Kaminski (Lori Hans), Meiling Kaminski (Josh Carter), Kai Smith (Ryan), and Lehua Ponder (Drew); and her cherished grandchildren: Colton Trace Smith and Alden Grace Ponder. She also leaves behind two brothers, Jay Warwick and Duke Warwick, sister Laguita Hooper, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were fortunate to know her.

Lani passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 20th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bowman Family Trophy Room (3251 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN).
