Velma Rose Barlow was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Alfred Lee Jones and Mary Louise Jones on November 13, 1939. She was the eldest of her seven siblings.
Having professed a belief in Christ and been baptized, Velma was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She remained faithful to her church and it was there that she found joy in being a Sunday School Teacher.
Velma received her primary and secondary education in the public schools, graduating from the renowned and historic Crispus Attucks High School. She was a proud “Tiger”.
Velma was employed as a Teacher’s Aid. As the mother of five, she adored children. She cherished times spent with her grandchildren and relished in the accomplishments of each of her progeny.
Over the years, Velma remained active. She liked to go to the gym. She enjoyed cooking and preparing holiday meals for family and loved ones.
Velma Rose Jones Barlow made her transition from death to eternal life on April 30, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was preceded by her parents and a daughter, Vicki Ross; brothers, Benny Lee Jones and Leonard Jones; sister, Loretta Jones Givens and nephew. Tyrell Long.,
Velma Rose Jones Barlow is survived by daughters, Christina Harrell and Debbie Bred and sons, Calvin Lambert and Carl Lambert; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; siblings, Katrina E. Hughes, Patrician Ann Jones and Lonnie Hughes. She also leaves a multitude of three generations of nieces and nephews, many cousins, church family and a host of friends.
