Sandra D (Leek) Leek, Esq.

Attorney Sandra D. Leek, 58, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012, in Indianapolis, IN.  She was preceded in death by her parents J. Donald Leek (Barbara) and Inez R. Leek Anderson.  She is survived by her only sibling sister Cynthia (Fred) Leek Cleveland of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Sandra was born in Durham, NC and grew up in Gary, IN.  She graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School, received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Tufts University in Medford, MA and a Juris Doctorate degree from Indiana University, in Bloomington, IN.  After graduating from law school, Sandra made Indianapolis her home for over thirty years where she specialized in law pertaining to Labor & Employment, EEO, ADA, Fair Housing, diversity and civil rights issues.   Prior to working in private practice, Sandra was an attorney at Baker and Daniels, LLP, she was appointed by three governors as State Commissioner of Indiana Civil Rights, she served as  chairperson of the Indiana Unemployment Insurance Review Board, and worked as an attorney at Indiana Legal Services, Inc. for many years.  In addition, Sandra was a published author.  She served on many local boards and received numerous awards and citations for her leadership and involvement in community service and civil rights advocacy.  Sandra was passionate about helping others and gave selfishly and tirelessly of her time and talents.  Final arrangements are being entrusted to Stuart Mortuary, 2201 N. Illinois Street, Indianapolis, IN  46208. A wake and family visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will conduct the Omega Omega service at 7:00 PM during the wake.  Sandra’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, 5136 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228.
