Sarah Jean Knox Tharpe was born December 20, 1947 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Willie Herbert Knox, Sr. and Hettie Jean Knox. She was the second eldest child.
Sarah was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church where she served faithfully as well as sung in the choir.
Sarah received her early education in Arkansas and graduated from Peake High School. She also attended Henderson State University for two years. She then relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana with her sister Eva. After relocating to Indianapolis she united in Holy Matrimony with the late Cedric Tharpe. To this union one child was born.
Sarah was a kind and supportive person to her children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. She will be missed by all.
Sarah departed this life on September 7, 2023, at the age of seventy-five years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cedric Tharpe, Sr.; her youngest son, Cedric Tharpe, Jr.; sister, Eva C. Knox Berry Sands; and her parents, Willie and Hettie Knox.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Tony Mayes (Irene); grandson, Tony Mayes, Jr.; two brothers, Willie H. Knox, Jr. (Kimberly) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Edward Knox, Sr. of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Brenda Knox and Martha Knox Gaither (Richard) both of Fort Worth, Texas; special friend, Frank McGraw; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
