Ruby Gail (Neal) Mabry was born in White Cliffs, Arkansas, on September 22, 1929 to R.D. and Jadie (Nunerley) Neal. She lost her mother when she was only 1 year old and her father shortly thereafter and was raised by grandparents, Birten and Daisy Nunerley.
At an early age, Ruby accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and consistently lived a Christian life. She was always the person who prayed for others. Always led by the Spirit, Ruby fought against injustices to ensure that her family, friends and her community were treated fairly. She was formerly the President of the Englewood, Chicago and Illinois Welfare Rights Organizations. She championed meaningful changes in state policies to the benefit of many in need. She pursued careers in occupational health and business accounting.
She taught and ran Sunday School programs in Chicago at First Community Missionary Baptist Church and New Revelation of Holiness Baptist Church. She also continued teaching and guiding believers in Wheaton, Maryland at First Baptist Church before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana where she became an active member of Mt. Gerizim Baptist Church.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and a host of other family elders, as well as her three brothers, OD, Richard, and George; three of her children, Michael, Jadie, and Joy; grandson, Michael Jr.; former husband, Bush Mabry; and a host of lifelong close friends and other family members.
She leaves to mourn children, Mark, Cheryl, Joan; grandchildren, Jamaal, TaShawn, Jawanna, Angelo, Blaize, Brandon, and Chris; great-grandchildren, Michael, Ila, Courtney, Jalin, Markell, Dallas, Aria, Chaan, Skylar, TaMiesa, Imani, Tyree, and Royaltee; daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal, Margaret, Isaac, and Bayan; a host of unofficially adopted sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters Walter, Anthony, Michael, Brenda, Peaches, Yvonne, Richard, and many others; nieces, nephews and cousins, Lula, Dorand, Otis, Clifford, Jimmy, Kareem, Neal, Pat and several others; her many friends from the Senior Café Center in Indianapolis; and her dear church families in Chicago, Maryland and Indianapolis.
Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
