Roosevelt Williams, born on January 6, 1949, in Greenwood, Mississippi, was first raised by parents, Pathina Flowers-Williams and Booker T. Williams, who later passed when he was young. Ruby and Mary Williams, his sisters stepped up to support and raise Roosevelt and his siblings. His siblings included Cleo, Hosea, Ruby, Mary, Lethia, Pearl, and Pathina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pathina Flowers-Williams and Booker T. Williams, and then his brothers Willie, Wesley, Jasper, and Charles.
Having moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, he graduated from Crispus Attucks High School, Roosevelt began working at Navistar, continued until he retired after fifty solid years of service, as a machine operator. While being a member of the local United Auto Workers Union, Roosevelt then acquired his barber license, and expanded his community outreach, until opening his own in home shop.
During his accomplishments he courted his long-term girlfriend, Shirley J. Patton, until his brother returned from the army. Then, Roosevelt and Shirley married, had two children: Shannon and Roosevelt H. Williams, II (Theresa). His son, Roosevelt, and wife, Theresa, blessed Roosevelt and Shirley with their only granddaughter, Cheyenne, who is commonly known as, “His heart.” Their marriage was preserved for fifty-five loving years until Roosevelt’s passing.
Roosevelt has been a member of the Eastern Star Church for over fifty years, and he served on the Adult Usher Board until his health mandated that he could no longer greet, nor worship, nor be of service to the church. He was on dialysis for over thirty years, and for which he never missed any treatment. Roosevelt enjoyed the company that the nurses and technicians provided at the dialysis center. His transportation team was excellent, and he enjoyed their conversation and camaraderie.
Roosevelt enjoyed all spectator sports, which included golf, football, and basketball, and he was the biggest Pacers and Colt’s fan. He was also a baseball, and tennis fan. He also loved photography, and when, “His heart- his favorite granddaughter, Cheyenne” would paint, he would purchase all of them. He also participated in the football pool and enjoyed going to the casino. His favorite pastime was bossing people around, especially the company of his family, friends, and co-workers.
He departed this earthly life on April 27, 2026, at that age of seventy-seven years. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him the most.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Shirley Williams; his children, Shannon Williams and Roosevelt Williams, II; his granddaughter, Cheyenne; his daughter-in-love, Theresa Everett, siblings, Ruby, Mary, Pathina, Lethia, Pearl, Hosea, and Cleo Williams, a host of three generations of nieces and nephews, other relatives and the Eastern Star Church Family.
