RONALD BAILEY Obituary

Mr. Ronald Lee Bailey, the son of the late Ruben Bailey and Mary Moreland Bailey, was born February 12, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ronald, affectionately known as “Ronnie,” received his elementary education from IPS #63 and Attucks High School. He was known for his deep tone voice, kind heart, sense of humor, compassion, faith and love for family. He would also tell you when you were wrong.

Ronnie was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary L. Bailey, spending 57 years as a couple. He worked at General Motors, Truck and Bus for over 30 years.

Ronnie professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mount Vernon under the pastorate of the late Rev. Mozel Sanders. He later baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at Victory Tabernacle Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop Dr. William L. Harris Sr. until his health declined.

In his early years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and baseball at Belmont Park. His baseball team was called the “Haughville Drunks” where the team played different communities in Indianapolis. He would also help the Haughville community dustbowls.

Ronnie loved cooking chili for his family and friends. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would not allow anyone to discipline them at his house. He would tell you, “Not in here”. At his request, for over 15 years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered at his house for Sunday dinner.

Ronnie truly loved his family; family was always first with him. He would help his family no matter what was needed. He also loved his Haughville family. He reminisced a lot about family stories and lots of stories with his Haughville friends.

Ronald L. Bailey departed his earthly life on April 4, 2026, at the age of eighty-one years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Mary Bailey, son Ronald Bailey, Jr. sister, Beulah Mitchell, Dora L. Pence, Letha Agnew, Robert Bailey and Terrel Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Mary L. Bailey, six children, Rhonda Bailey and Toya Glover (Bruce), Michael O’Connor (Sara), Derrick O’Connor (Tosha), Mark Hill; and 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
