RICHARD COLBERT Obituary

 

Richard “Richie” Allen Colbert (Cooper), thee first born son of Cornelius and Anna Cooper, entered this world April 20, 1947.  Bay Bay, as he was affectionately coined as a little tike by his Aunt Carlene aka Mom Boof.  He attended IPS Elementary School #87 and Crispus Attucks High School where he excelled in sports namely football as a running back in high school and Watkins Pal Club.

 At a very tender age he developed a passion for music and became lead singer in a group called The Chants in the late 1950’s, performing at various local venues. 

“RC” was a very charming youngster and captured the hearts of many with his million-dollar smile!

Richie was known for giving family nicknames and commonly referred to the women in his life as Suga!  He was gainfully employed by Caravelle Commons, Andrew Gardens, Kenwood Place/Mount Paran Square and Opportunities Park. Richie was also an avid sports fan, enjoyed being outside, shopping mostly-clothing, jewelry and Jordan's, spending time with friends and family.   

He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who departed this life on June 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hearty laughter and loved ones who he’d risk it all to protect! He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Cooper; mother, Anna L. Cooper; and father, Cornelius Cooper Sr.

Richie is survived by his wife: Lisa Cooper, longtime partner, Kim Mitchell; two siblings, Patrisha Bouquette Cooper and Cornelius “Beatle” Cooper; six daughters and two sons:  Lisa Bailey, Tracey Rome, Erickah Cooper and Ri’Annah Colbert, April Shirley, Kim-nita Boyd, Alonzo and Caraharee Vasquez. He also has a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
