RICHARD HESTON BROOKS

Mr. Richard Heston Brooks, Jr. was born on September 26, 1951  Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was the son of the late Richard H. Brooks, Sr. and Margo Clark Brooks.

Rick confessed his hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist North Indianapolis, under the leadership of the late Rev. James R. Bradley, Sr.

Rick was a product of the Indianapolis Public School system. He attended school #86, Broad Ripple High School, and was a graduate with Crispus Attucks Class of 1969.

After High School Rick joined the United States Airforce during the Vietnam conflict. After serving his country he attended the University of Sacramento where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

Rick returned to Indianapolis where he met and married Jacqueline Simmons. After the birth of their son, Richard H. Brooks, III, Rick and Jackie decided to return to First Baptist as their church home.

Rick loved to sing and joined the church choir along with the Male Chorus.

Rick also earned a second degree black belt in several martial arts which included Taekwondo, Isuru, and Hapkido.

Rick loved his family and enjoyed the holidays with his family and his brother’s family always got together for fun and food.

Rick departed this life on May 2, 2023 at the age of seventy-one years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Marlena Brooks.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jacqueline Brooks, one son, Richard Brooks, III “RJ”; brother, Clark Brooks (Jackie), nephew, Brandon Brooks (Rande); two sisters-in-law, Bridget Brown (Fredrick) and Inger Simmons; one brother-in-law, Frank Simmons (Terry) and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends of all whom will miss him dearly and remember him fondly.
