Phyllis Ann Torain was born on August 28, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the oldest of two children. She graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Indiana University.
Phyllis began working at the U.S. Post Office at the age of 19 years old and worked there for 45 years before she retired.
Phyllis enjoyed visiting several Apostolic churches and attending Women renewal workshops at Bethesda (S.E. Elder Derrick Miller and Lady Valerie), Zion Tabernacle and Christ Temple. She also enjoyed her annual Christmas retiree luncheon with USPS retirees and annual luncheon with her Finance Center co-workers.
Shopping and eating out was among her favorite things to do in addition to caring for her elderly Family members
Phyllis departed this life on October 16, 2025, at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie "Mommie” Maude Dixson Torain Taylor and Billie Torain; stepfather Layman “Dad” Taylor; brother, Michael Torain; and beloved daughter, Shanna Whiteside.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Michael (Susan) Whiteside; grandson, Kristopher Glover; three granddaughters, Aundrianna (Chris Barrett) Whiteside, Taylor Maria Whiteside, and Venetia Ann Whiteside; three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
