Phillip Matthews, 70, formerly of Indianapolis, transitioned to Eternal Life on May 3, 2025.
On Thursday, June 5, there will be a Memorial Celebration at 1 p.m. and visitation from 12 p.m. until 1p.m. at Stuart Mortuary Chapel with interment at Sutherland Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
He was a 1974 graduate of Shortridge High School. He resided in California for 42 years. The son of Duke Rufus and Annie Lee Bellamy Matthews, he was preceded in death by siblings, Anthony, Beverly, Anna Maria, Lonnie and Edward Matthews. Those he leaves include two sons, Phillip J. Matthews, 44, and Phillip J. Matthews, 24, and grandson, Phillip J. Matthews, 21; brothers and sisters, Duke R., David D., Joseph C., Paul E., Phobie, Sandy and Laura Matthews, and special people in his life, Regina Taylor, Wanda Sealess and Shaleen “Sha” Washington.
