ODESSA CHANDLER Obituary

Mrs. Odessia Chandler was born on September 14, 1945, in West Point, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Junior Strong and Elizia Moton. Odessia attended Northside High School in West Point.

Odessia moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1960. It was here where she united in Holy Matrimony with Henry L. Chandler in 1966. To this union, two children were born, Antonio and Tamala Chandler.

Odessia was employed by GC Murphy’s, KFC, and Lindner’s Ice Cream. Odessia accepted Christ at an early age. She later united with the Light of the World Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sherman D. Allen, Sr.

Odessia touched many lives with a very loving spirit. She was truly a woman of God. She was loved by so many, and Odessia loved working in her yard and maintaining her flowers.

On June 16, 2026, at 9:00 p.m., at the age of 80 years and 9 months, Odessia was called home to Heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Taliyah Dorsett; sister, Maudie Louise Terry; brothers, Ned Strong, Raymond Strong, and Lee Allen Strong; and her husband of sixty years, Henry L. Chandler.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two children, Antonio Chandler and Tamala Chandler; four grandchildren, Antonio Chandler Jr., Aaron Dorsett Jr., Aaliyah Dorsett, and Jasmine Ariona DeVoe; one sister, Annie Lee Doss; one brother, Sampson Strong; and host of nephews and nieces, many other relatives, church family, and friends.
