Nathaniel Day was born on July 9, 1938, in Canton, Mississippi, to the union of Gertrude Day Goodloe and Elijah Day, Sr. From an early age, Nathaniel’s life reflected strength, humility, and a deep sense of purpose. He was educated in the Madison County public school system, where he began forming the values that would guide him throughout his life.
Seeking new opportunities, Nathaniel made his way to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he built a life rooted in hard work and dedication. He began his career with McLean Trucking Company and later became a skilled crane operator at K & F Industries, Inc. He took great pride in his work, and those who knew him respected his steady hands, strong work ethic, and quiet determination.
Nathaniel gave his life to Christ at an early age, a decision that remained the foundation of his journey. Under the guidance of his uncle, Samuel Day, he faithfully served as a Deacon at Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Grace Missionary Church under the leadership of Reverend Moses Day, where he continued to grow in faith and serve with devotion.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Nathaniel peacefully transitioned from this life to his eternal home. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that he lived a full and faithful life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Day Goodloe and Elijah Day, Sr.; his beloved wife, Shelly Day; his brothers, Elijah Day Jr., McKinley (Kenny) Day, Hercules Day, and Lewis Carter (LC) Day; and his sisters, Clementine Hawkins, Bobbie Jean Johnson, Carrie Day, and Veresteen (Bonnie) Day Thompson.
Nathaniel leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by his children, Tyrone (Jamesetta) Day of Dalzell, South Carolina; Natalie Day of California; and Sean Day of Indianapolis, Indiana; his sister, Hattie Mae Carroll of Indianapolis, Indiana; his 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Nathaniel will always be remembered for his quiet strength, his faith, and the love he shared so freely with those around him. His presence will be missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
