MS. DALE GARVIN Obituary

Dale Marie Garvin, 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 7:29 a.m.  Dale was a bright light to all of those who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her love for God and of the Scripture led her to be an outstanding teacher, avid researcher, and pillar of the Word.

Dale Garvin was born to the late Isaac A. Jones and Julia E. Jones on Saturday, December 22,1951. Her brother, Michael O. Filer, and her sister, Margaret L. Jones preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, U. Marie Garvin; granddaughters, Taylor A. Smith and Surona L. Fox; sister, Adele P. Sturky-Foster; sister-in-law, Millicent C. Filer; nephews, Michael W. Filer, Matthew R. Filer, and Brian J. Whitehead; and a host of cousins and other family members.

Dale Marie Jones graduated from Emmanuel High School in 1969.  She went on to attend Indiana University at Purdue University Institute, where she studied computer programming and became a computer analyst.

Sis. Dale was baptized and attended College Avenue Church of Christ.  Her love for God grew as she studied the Word.  Sis. Dale learned evangelism under Dr. David E. Perkins Sr and continued to nurture her passion for sharing the Word under Lawrence Wooden, at Fall Creek Church of Christ. Sis. Dale was a faithful servant; anytime the church called upon her, she was ready to serve.  In 2007, Sis. Dale became a member of her final church home, Eagle Creek Church of Christ.  A major part of her ministry was spearheading the Joseph Plan. The Joseph Plan served over 25,000 families, providing food, clothing and other goods.  Sis. Dale was not only a follower of the Word but also a teacher of the Word.  Sis. Dale was a published author of “How’s Your Relationship with God?”, a book used as a learning tool for Christians all over the world to evaluate their personal walk with God.  Sis. Dale had many passions within the church, such as singing, teaching bible study, or cooking and baking like her famous carrot cake— even her Momma would ask for it at family functions!

Sis. Dale enjoyed traveling with her family to exotic places.  She also filled her time shopping as evidenced by her tasteful fashions.

She met the love of her life George H. Dickerson, and they lived happily until his passing.

Although Sis. Dale no longer walks with us in the physical realm; her spirit continues to inspire and uplift us. May we carry forth her legacy in loving the Lord in all that we do.
