Mrs. LaVerne McDaniel-Jones was born June 7, 1950 to Ann and Frank Young in Tupelo, Mississippi.
After graduating from the local city Schools, LaVerne and her late husband Tommy McDaniel decided to venture North and Indianapolis, Indiana would then become her homestead. She joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. TT Newman.
Being an avid reader, LaVerne knew the importance of education to jump start her career. So with God on her side, she became a graduate of Indiana Business College. Having such natural talent there is no surprise to Laverne’s career choice. Being a Primary School Educator, LaVerne honed her skills to narrate and influence her scholars. She took pride in reading and reciting. This skill was cultivated during her tenure.
However, her most rewarding occupation was Motherhood as well followed by wife. In 1995 LaVerne was wed to Sylvester Jones. They were married 27 enjoyable years. Homemaker was deemed her most rewarding past time. God assigned LaVerne a son named David which she found great joy in raising. The bond they shared was developed by many evenings playing cards and listening to stories of the South. David found out that his mom was a Master of Spades and Tonk. However, she did share a few tips and a lot of life lessons.
LaVerne often found joy reading, watching movies, bowling and driving. Keep living you’ll see one day. This was her Mantra and way of life. One could often find themselves invited to feast on her fried chicken and meatloaf. While visiting you may hear great stories of her ventures, which paired perfect with her pound cake. Seeing others enjoy their meal was the only reward needed for such hard work.
On July 28,2022 she answered the call of every believer in Christ Jesus. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents Ann and Frank Young; brothers, Bobby, Joseph, Luke, Billy, and Jim (Young); sisters, Evelyn Anthony (Young), Diana Howard and Brenda Young.
She is survived by her husband, Slyvester Jones; son, David Keglar; grandson, David Keglar II; brothers, William, John, and James (Young); sisters, Polly Mae Richey (Young), Mary Ann Young, Peggy Young, and Eartha Bradley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
