Leonard Wayne Deane was called Home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 19, 2023.
Leonard was born to Benjamin Edwin Deane, Jr. and Ethel Mildred (Jones) Deane on March 13, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
The family relocated to Richmond, Indiana, where he graduated from Richmond High School. He immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968.
Leonard received several awards and commendations among which included: The National Defense Service Medal; Bronze Star w/Valor; 2 Purple Heart Medals; Combat Action Ribbon; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry; Vietnamese Service Medal, and The Vietnamese Campaign Medal. Having completed his tour of duty, he retired due to injuries sustained during his time in the service as a Lance Corporal on October 1, 1969. He attended Indiana Vocational College, where he earned an Associate degree in Business. He was later employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring after over 35 years of service.
Leonard met the love of his life, Margaret Ann Martindale, and they were united in marriage on August 26, 1981. Together they raised two children, Joseph Kristopher Charles and Jayla Ann Adele. He absolutely loved his four grandchildren, Nevaeh, Joseph, Jr., Nivea and Nylah Deane.
Leonard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on May 10, 1985 at Greater Northwest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Claude B. Robinson.
Leonard was a selfless person who truly loved and adored his family. His hobbies included fishing and traveling. He especially loved traveling to baseball games with his grandson, “Joe-Joe”.
Leonard will be sorely missed by his wife Margaret Ann Deane; children, Joseph Kristopher Charles Deane and Jayla Ann Adele Deane; four grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Centoya Deane; siblings, Ronald Edwin Deane (Mary), Carol Lois Jobe (Leon), Patricia Beverly Watkins (William) and Adele Jeanett Buckner (Robert) and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
