MR. KILPATRICK HORNE, III Obituary

Kilpatrick Horne, III was born on September 24, 1942, to the union of Kilpatrick Horne, Jr., and Arabella Horne in Richmond, VA. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with his family at the young age of nine years old.

KIL professed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church.  He later joined the fellowship of Christian Unity Church, where his personal friend and pastor was Robert Smith. While in Hospice care at home, he was visited several times by his cousin Pastor Kim Graves. During one of her many visits, Kil went under the watch care of her church, New Vision Ministries.

KIL received his formal education in the Indianapolis Public School System, graduating from Crispus Attucks in 1961.  In high school, Kil played football, was a member of the Crispus Attucks Letterman Club, and class President. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, receiving Honorable Discharge in 1963.

KIL was a master electrician, employed with Conrail, & later retiring from Amtrak after 26 years of service. During his employment at Amtrak he was a member of the union.

KIL loved listening to jazz, reading, decorating his home, spending time with his family, and entertaining. He also loved to dress and took great pride in his style, and always kept a nice hat on his head, or in his hand. He also loved his cars and could always be found tinkering around in his garage.

During family gatherings he could be found on the dance floor doing "His Thang", and always opened his home to all that he knew. He was an exceptional Bonus Dad and loved his grandkids DEARLY.  They too thought the world of their Paw Paw. People at Amtrak continued to see Kil every day after his retirement - Why because he continued to drop off and pick up Vicki up from work every day until his health began to fail. Kil will always be remembered as the family handyman - if it needed fixing he would get it done!

KIL went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2022, at 3:37 a.m. He was preceded in death by his father Kilpatrick Horne Sr., his mother Arabella Horne, sister Patricia Horne, and brothers Victor and Frank Horne.

KIL leaves to cherish his memory: His rock and wife of 26 years, Vicki Lynn Horne, sister; Gayle Horne Thompson, sons; Kavan Horne (Pamela), Kelly Horne (Carmen), Derick McCulley (Melissa), and daughter; Nicole McCulley-Glover (Melvin), bonus sons; Deric Colbert Jr. (Darrika), Dwayne Easley (Shawnya), Devin Colbert (Lovey), and Quinton Williams, bonus daughters; Lisa Garnes and Angela Sales, 29 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
