Havis Manuel, known by all who loved him as “Buddy”, was born October 31, 1933 to the late Jessie Sr. and Beulah Manuel in Gould, Arkansas. Jessie and Beulah had 12 children and Havis was number 4.
Buddy completed school in Arkansas graduating from Gould high School. He decided that the south was not where he wanted to raise a family and shortly after graduating, he moved to Detroit, Michigan as a part of the great migration north.
Havis married Helen and to this union was born four children: Leonard, Edward, Tina and Jacqueline Manuel. Leonard and Jacqueline preceded Havis in death.
Buddy was a diesel mechanic for General Motors where he worked for 31 years and retired. He was well known and loved in the Detroit community and had impeccable swag. Buddy loved his family and often travelled to spend time with them. He frequently told stories of his road trips to Indianapolis, California and Louisiana to visit his brothers sisters and their families. We never could get him on an airplane, if he couldn’t drive there, he wasn’t going. Later in life Buddy often joked about being retired longer that he worked.
Buddy departed this life at the age of ninety-one on June 5, 2025.
Buddy leaves to cherish his memory his two living siblings, Freddie Yaeger and Ruby Millbrook; his son; Edward; daughter, Tina Manuel; his grandchildren David Jones Jr., LaCendra (Jamaal) Morrison, and Michelle Nobles; great-grandchildren, Demi, David III, and Dakota Jones, Ja’Nice and Brianca Smith, Serenity, Savannah, Joshua, and Charlene Nobles; one great-great grandson, Kalvin Rucker Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends that loved him deeply and will miss him.
