MR. AUBREY SUMMERS

Born on November 19, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Vernon Henderson and Bernice L. Phillips, Aubrey O. Summers attended John Hope School No. 26 and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. After spending part of his youth in Detroit, Michigan, he developed a passion for fashion, culture, and hairstyling that would shape his future.

Aubrey proudly served as a firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department beginning in 1969. He later graduated from the Indianapolis Skills Center's cosmetology program and opened the well-known Mr. Aubrey's Beauty Salon on Indianapolis' east side, where he became more than a hairstylist—he became a trusted friend, mentor, and confidant to generations of clients. He also pursued a successful career in real estate, earning certifications as a Real Estate Salesperson and Associate Broker while working with Abernathy Realty.

In 1984, Aubrey met Jacqueline Doyle through a salon appointment, and what began as a client relationship blossomed into a lifelong love story. They married on August 1, 2000, sharing 42 years of love, faith, family, and partnership. Together they enjoyed traveling, attending jazz concerts, and worshipping as devoted members of Eastern Star Church, where Aubrey was known for joyfully singing his favorite gospel song, “When I Rose This Morning."

Aubrey was also committed to uplifting his community, supporting Black firefighters through advocacy and fundraising efforts, and leaving a lasting impact through his service, entrepreneurship, and mentorship.

Aubrey O. Summers, 81, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Aubrey O. "Toot" Summers Jr.; his sisters, Alicia Phillips and Jendayi "Monica" Iyi; and other beloved family members.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Jacqueline Doyle Summers; daughter, Chenise "Crunch" Malone; stepson, Robert (Malybu) White; stepdaughter, Jennifer White (John Foster II); grandchildren Robert "Rico" James White Jr., Aniya White, and John Foster III; his brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, former clients, colleagues, and loved ones.

Aubrey O. Summers leaves a legacy defined by faith, service, compassion, entrepreneurship, and excellence. He was a firefighter, a master hairstylist, a businessman, and a man who made a lasting difference in the lives of countless people.
