MITCHELL WAYNE SMITH

Mitchell Wayne Smith affectionately known as “Mickey” by his family was born on November 18, 1951, in Owenton, Kentucky to Joseph “Buck” Smith and Vernell Miles Smith who preceded him in death. 

He was baptized at an early age at Second Baptist Church in New Liberty, Kentucky.  Upon his graduation from Owen County High School in 1970, Mitchell moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to live with his beloved aunt, Mary and uncle, Harold Anderson. 

Mitchell began working at Eli Lilly and Company in 1970 and retired in 2006 as a supervisor. During his time at Lilly, he received many awards for his commitment to quality and workplace safety. Mitchell also enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, listening to music, especially jazz, and tinkering on cars. 

Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Joseph Smith (Paula); niece, Monica Smith; nephew, Joshua Smith; great-niece, Genesis Smith; great-nephew, Atlas Smith; and a host of cousins and friends. He will be dearly missed by his lifelong best friend, Felecia D. Shelby and her sons, Ben Smith, III and Dominic Washington.
