Michelle Janice Miller was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 25, 1961. She was the 8th child born to the union of Robert Lee Sr., and Helen Broadnax Miller. Michelle, “Pumpkin” as she donned from an early age, attended school in Indianapolis, eventually graduating from Shortridge High School.
During her younger years she was very active and enjoyed playing tennis along with her elder sister. She loved attending summer camp.
After high school Michelle joined the Army where she had outstanding service for more than 20 years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class/E7. She started her career in the military as a food service specialist, spending her first 6 years preparing and serving thousands of meals at home and abroad. She received several medals and accommodations and also was a bronze star recruitment officer for the Army. Michelle completed the rest of her service years as an Army Retention Non-Commissioned Officer.
Michelle eventually retired from the military and began her career as an entrepreneurial. Throughout this time, she owned several businesses. She owned and operated a janitorial service, several properties and co-owned a night club, Club Chapparel.
Michelle was family oriented and often opened her home for family gatherings. She also cared for her older brother for a period. Though she had no children of her own, she was very inspirational and supportive of her nieces, nephews and other surrogate children. She could be firm and outspoken but encouraging and understanding when needed.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, Michelle Janice Miller succumbed to a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; nephew, Jerren; and significant other George. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Teresa Taylor, Dominique Eubank, Elizabeth Miller, Tiawana Safford, and Tonya (Lee) Hill; brothers Flennory and David Miller; sister-in-law Jacqui Miller; a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
