MICHAEL VAUGHN Obituary

Michael Eric Vaughn “Big Mike”

Sunrise: September 29, 1955               Sunset: July 29, 2022

Michael Eric Vaughn was born September 29, 1955, to Richard Allen Vaughn Sr. and Martha Marie Vaughn, the third of four beloved children. Michael attended Indianapolis Public School #60 and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1973. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Affectionately called “Kodus” or “Big Mike” by friends and family, Michael enjoyed helping children and was a substitute teacher for IPS for several years. He was employed by the State of Indiana as an Eligibility Consultant for over 20 years prior to retirement.

Michael was a music aficionado. His taste was diverse – he loved all genres and would play his “records” for hours on end and attend concerts every chance he got. His knowledge of songs and artists was encyclopedic. Mention Jeffrey Osborne, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan and he’d school you on their discography and history.

Basketball was another passion of Michael’s and he often played at Tarkington Park, claiming to have “shown a thing or two” to great players like the late Stacy Toran.

Michael was an avid reader and his knowledge made him a formidable debater on any subject. The man loved a good argument.

Family was important to Michael and he nurtured friendships – he kept in touch with and visited family and friends whenever possible.

Michael was baptized at an early age and recently began having bible study with a small group of his brothers in Christ.

Michael was called home on July 29, 2022.  He was preceded in death by parents, Richard Allen Vaughn Sr., Martha Marie Vaughn and son, Hardy Stepp.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory his son, Lee Gray; daughters: LaTasha Blake, Tamika Stepp, Shauna (Pierre Burnett) Stepp-Burnett; siblings: Richard Allen Vaughn Jr., Lillian Marie Vaughn and Kelly Colleen Vaughn; nieces: Shaunita Sherrell, Paris Vaughn, Latoy Vaughn and Monique Chapman; nephew: Eric Ellis; great nieces and nephews:, Brandon and Bryan Williams, Cameron Stubblefield, Diamond Sherrell, Bari Tunstill Jr., Cherub Vaughn, and Cairo Payne, Teylor Ellis, Elexa Ellis, DeShaun Sherrell, Deion Sherrell, Areiyah Tunstill,  Hazel-Grace Tunstill, Khari Tunstill, Skylar Stubblefield, Sterling Stubblefield and a host of cousins, relatives and dear friends.
