MATTIE L. MINTZE

Mrs. Mattie L. Tyson Mintze was born November 26, 1928, in Ocilla, Georgia.  Mattie was born to the union of Davis Tyson and Mattie Camper Tyson. 

Mattie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age.  She has always lived a Christian life.

Mattie would often reminisce about the fun times of her childhood growing up in Ocilla, Georgia when she was the lead scorer of her basketball team wearing high top tennis shoes with white basketball socks pulled up to her knees.  Mattie was a Daddy’s girl who was frequently referred to as his, “Knee baby.” 

Mattie was courted by Eddie N. Mintze, who she married on May 18,1946. Their marriage spanned over sixty-three years. Mattie and Eddie came to Indianapolis with two buffalo nickels between them and started a better life. Mattie and Eddie welcomed six children. Eddie L, Jerry, Larry N, Donald E., Monalisa and Tony V. to their union.

Mattie retired from Dolly Madison and soon became a full-time homemaker. Upon retirement, Mattie took on several different activities which she referred to as playing the “PIE-Ann-ee" (piano) and solo singing to family members and friends that attentively would listen. She also loved to cook, sew, quilt, embroider, knit and play a good game of Jacks and a mean hand of Pit.

Mattie departed this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 3:15 p.m. praising her way to Jesus and being ushered into the Heavenly gates. She was preceded in death by her father, Davis Tyson, and mother, Mattie L. Tyson; husband, Eddie Mintze, and sons, Eddie Lewis Mintze, Jerry Mintze, and Larry Mintze. In addition, she was preceded by three grandsons and one great-grandson. 

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories her children, Donald Mintze (Karen), Monalisa Mintze, and Tony Mintze (Judy), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
