Mary Elizabeth (McCoy) Sanders was born on Tuesday, June 11, 1935, in Fordyce, Arkansas, to the proud parents, Pastor Henry McCoy and Mary Holmes McCoy. She was the eldest of eleven children born to this union. Mary completed her education in Fordyce, Arkansas. At an early age, she married Clarence Jordan, and to this union one son was born, James Jordan. She was later blessed with another son, Terry Jordan. This relationship was shortened due to the death of her husband.
She and her immediate family moved to Marion, Indiana, where she met Clarence Gene Fisher. They later united in Holy Matrimony. Together they had three children, Denisa Ann, Diana Marie, and Darryl Dean Fisher. Many years later, Mary was united in marriage to Melvin Sanders, and they shared a loving life together until his passing.
Mary was blessed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with the gift of a servant’s heart at an early age. This was evident throughout her walk with the Lord and in her occupational choices. She was a talented pianist and worked faithfully as a chef, nanny, and maid - always serving others with love and grace.
Mary genuinely loved people. She was extremely generous in her acts of kindness, both tangible and intangible. Her compassion, empathetic and giving spirit was not just bestowed to her family, but to anyone in need. If you needed it and Mary, had it, you could get it! This was evident through the many gatherings where food, love, and laughter were shared.
Moreover, she had a wonderful sense of style and creativity. She loved music, fashion, and jewelry, and her radiant appearance reflected her passion, joy and confidence. Despite life’s many tragedies, challenges and difficulties encountered, Mary never lost her faith. She trusted God through it all and never forgot her spiritual upbringing. Although she spent some years away from God, she later recommitted her life to Christ and became a devoted member of the 22nd Street Church of God in Christ. Her commitment to both God and His Church remained steadfast until her passing. After completing her work here on earth, God called her home on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the blessed age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary McCoy; her three husbands: Clarence Jordan, Clarence Fisher, and Melvin Sanders; one son, Darryl Fisher; two grandsons, Sema-J Jordan and Terry Hayes; four brothers: Earnest McCoy, Cornelius McCoy, Silas McCoy, and William McCoy; two sisters: Flotea Jean Harris and Patricia Miles; and one brother-in-law, Johnny Green. Gladly, her loving legacy lives on through her children: James Jordan, Terry Jordan, Denisa (William) Spencer, Sr., and Diana (Frederick) Morris Grandchildren: James Suk, Terry Hayes, LaTrice (George) Johnson, LaShelle Fisher, LeonTaye and AnTonita Fisher, Kayla Jenkins, Jordan Langston, Bre’Isha Smith, William (Angela) Spencer, Jr., Corey (Stephanie) Spencer, and Micah (Jasmine) Spencer.
