Mr. Mark Malichi Carter “ Ibrahim Muhammad” was born June 23, 1931 to Thomas and Roberta Carruth Carter in Ripley, Mississippi.
He primarily worked along side his parents and siblings on their family farm. In 1950, at 18 years of age , he joined the United States Army, and served during the Korean War. In this same year he married the love of his life Lorine. They shared seventy one years of marital bliss. From their union, seven children were born, Thomas Roger Carter (Helen), Mark Carter, Diana Payne, Willie Ray Carter, LaVorah Brady, Jimmie James Carter, and Salidin Carter .
After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he worked for General Motors in Trenton, New Jersey and later in Marion, Indiana. He eventually moved to Indianapolis and went into business for himself. He first opened a neighborhood grocery store, and later started Mark’s Plumbing and Construction Company.
Mark was born and raised as a Baptist and in the early 1960’s Mark Converted to Islam.
Mark passed on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the age of ninety years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Mark and Thomas Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Lorine Carter; sister, Roberta Gerald of Trenton, NJ; his children, Diana Payne, Willie Ray Carter, LaVorah Brady, Jimmie Carter, and Saladin Carter; 18 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, along with other family members and friends.
