MARCELL WILSON

Marcell Wilson was born on July 13, 1940, in West Point, Mississippi, to the late Theodore Wilson and Mariah Sykes Wilson. He was raised in West Point, where he attended West Point High School and began building the foundation of a life that would be marked by love, hard work, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to family.

Although Marcell was not one to regularly attend church, the strong spiritual guidance of his beloved grandmother, affectionately known as “Mom Easter,” left a lasting imprint upon his life. She made certain that he understood there was a Higher Power above all—and that Higher Power was God. Through her teachings, her example, and the values she instilled in him, Marcell grew to be a God-fearing man who carried a deep reverence for God throughout his life. The seeds of faith planted by Mom Easter remained with him, quietly guiding his heart and reminding him that no matter where life’s journey led, God was always present.

In 1960, Marcell married Esteria Nance. Shortly thereafter, in 1961, he left West Point to begin a new chapter in his life. From their union came two beloved sons, Tyrone and Alvin Wayne Wilson, who were truly the pride and joy of their father’s heart.

Marcell was a caring, loving, and devoted father. In his eyes, Tyrone and Alvin could do no wrong. His love for his sons was deep, unconditional, and evident to all who knew him. He was a great provider who worked hard to ensure that his family was cared for and supported.  Marcell loved Esteria deeply and remained devoted to that love until her passing.

Among the many blessings in Marcell’s life, his grandson, Alvin Jr., affectionately known as “Little Wayne,” held an especially tender place in his heart. Marcell took tremendous pride in being his PaPa. Whenever Little Wayne came to visit, you could see the joy and pride on Marcell’s face. Those visits meant more to him than words could fully express. The time they shared would lift his spirits and carry him forward until the next visit. The bond between PaPa and Little Wayne was deeply special—a treasured connection filled with pride, love, and memories that will forever remain in the heart of his beloved grandson.

Marcell also shared an extraordinary bond with his brother, Isaac. Their relationship went far beyond that of brothers. To Isaac, Marcell was a father figure, a brother, and a best friend all in one. He was someone Isaac could depend on without question. As Isaac often said, “When no one else would come, I could always count on Gee.” Those words captured the heart of their lifelong bond and the kind of man Marcell was—loyal, dependable, and always willing to show up for those he loved. Through every season of life, Gee was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and unwavering support. The love they shared was built on trust, sacrifice, and a lifetime of memories that only brothers could understand.

Those words capture the heart of their relationship and speak volumes about the kind of man Marcell was. He was loyal, dependable, and always willing to show up for those he loved. Through life’s joys, challenges, changes, and uncertainties, Isaac knew that Marcell would be there. Their bond was built on a lifetime of love, trust, friendship, shared memories, and an understanding that only the two of them could fully know. Marcell was more than Isaac’s brother; he was a source of guidance, strength, companionship, and unwavering support. The love they shared was a true brotherhood in every sense of the word.

Years later, life brought Marcell another beautiful chapter of companionship and love. In 2016, he married Shelia A. Wilson, a woman who had been his longtime friend before becoming his wife. Their marriage was built upon the strong foundation of friendship, affection, loyalty, and genuine love for one another. Marcell and Shelia shared a deeply affectionate bond and stood faithfully by each other through both the good times and the difficult ones.

As Marcell’s needs increased, Shelia remained steadfastly by his side. She became his devoted caregiver, offering him love, comfort, patience, and unwavering support. She cared for him faithfully until he departed this life on July 3, 2026. Their journey together was a true reflection of companionship and devotion—a love that endured through every season.

Through his marriage to Shelia, Marcell’s family circle grew to include his stepchildren, Sabrina Hamilton and Andre Washington, as well as his step-grandchildren, Shanya Hollingsworth, Jaylind Johnson, and Coleman Ferguson. They became part of the extended family circle that enriched the later chapters of his life.

Marcell also shared a special and loving bond with his mother-in-law, Sue Jones, who held a dear place in his heart. And if there was one sure way to make Marcell happy, it was through a good home-cooked meal. He especially loved Sue’s cooking and appreciated the care and love she put into the food she prepared. Their relationship was one of genuine affection, and Sue remained someone very special to him throughout his life.

A man of strong work ethic and dedication, Marcell was employed by Ford Motor Company for over 30 years. After a long and faithful career, he retired in 2002, having built a legacy of hard work and responsibility that his family could admire and respect.

But Marcell also knew how to enjoy life. He loved going to the casino, sitting down for a good game of cards, and spending time surrounded by the people he loved. Family gatherings brought him great joy, and he treasured every opportunity to laugh, talk, play cards, share stories, and simply enjoy being together.

And Marcell loved to eat. A good meal could always bring a smile to his face, and those who knew him well knew that jowl bacon was one of his absolute favorites. Whether enjoying a home-cooked plate, gathering around the table with family, or savoring something prepared with love, food was one of life’s simple pleasures that Marcell truly appreciated. His love for a good meal—especially his beloved jowl bacon—became one of those familiar things about him that family and friends will remember with both smiles and laughter.

Marcell loved his family deeply, but his heart extended far beyond bloodlines. He loved his friends as family, and to know Marcell was to know a man who never met a stranger. His warmth, openness, and genuine love for people allowed him to form lasting relationships wherever he went. Whether you had known him for a lifetime or had only recently crossed his path, Marcell had a way of making you feel welcomed and valued.

Marcell was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Wilson and Mariah Sykes Wilson; his brothers, Ed and Nelson; his sisters, Queen Ester, Beatrice, and Helen; and his beloved Esteria.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shelia A. Wilson; his loving sons, Tyrone and Alvin Wayne Wilson; his beloved grandson, Alvin Jr. (“Little Wayne”); his stepchildren, Sabrina Hamilton and Andre Washington; his step-grandchildren, Shanya Hollingsworth, Jaylind Johnson, and Coleman Ferguson; his brothers, Theodore (Carrie), Isaac (Cynthia), and Willie; Mary Barr (Vern), Ruby Barr, and Shirley Robinson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, cherished friends, and all whose lives were touched by his love and presence.

Marcell Wilson lived a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, family, friendship, and unforgettable memories. His chair at the card table may now be empty, and family gatherings will never feel quite the same, but the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

After nearly 85 years of life, Marcell leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind the laughter shared around card tables, the excitement of casino trips, the joy of family gatherings, the comfort of a good home-cooked meal, the familiar love of jowl bacon, the strength of a hardworking provider, the devotion of a loving husband, the pride of a father who believed his sons could do no wrong, the loyalty of a brother who always showed up, and the unmistakable joy of a PaPa whose heart lit up whenever Little Wayne walked through the door.
