Mahalia Young was born on July 28, 1933, in West Point, Mississippi, to the late John Q. Posey and Fannie Frances Young-Posey. From the beginning, she carried a light that touched every person she met.
Mahalia accepted Christ at an early age, and her relationship with God guided her throughout her life. Her faith was steadfast, visible in her compassion, service, and strength.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Mahalia worked diligently before retiring from St. Vincent Hospital in the early 1990’s. Even after retirement, she continued serving her community in countless ways.
She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her beloved husband Luther Young, and her son Felix Allen.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her son Luther Young; her daughter Frances (William) Wooten; her brother Henry “Pigg” Posey; her grandsons Christopher (Sheila), Corey, Shawn, and Cody; her granddaughters Keana, Latasha, and Ashley; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
