Lynda Sawyers peacefully departed this life on April 17, 2026. She was born on December 23, 1953, to Doris Colemen and Chestee Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Lynda was known for her caring spirit, generous heart, and the quiet strength she showed throughout her life. She was a natural mentor and protector to many, especially during her years on Pierson Street, where she lovingly helped neighborhood children learn to ride bicycles, offered guidance, and became a trusted “big sister” to many.
She attended Crispus Attucks High School and graduated with the Class of 1974. She later worked faithfully at Central State Hospital, where she served patients with compassion for 11 years. She also held long term positions with The Hamilton Center, Dr. Baird's Health Clinic, McClinton’s Variety Stores, and Goodwill Industries.
One of Lynda’s greatest acts of love was her devoted care for her beloved mother during illness. She gave tirelessly, reflecting the selfless love that defined her life.
Lynda loved music, especially The Jacksons and Prince. She also cherished her beloved dogs Tito, Mina and Whisky.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her siblings Sharon Buckley and William Heath (Beverly); half-sister LaTanya Ervin-Heath; nieces and nephews Darnell Beard (Kionde), Lynda Marie Weathers, Rozalind Heath, Lynise Beard, Kupaji Heath, William Heath II, DuJuan Clay, cousins Larry Smith (Sung) and Tony Long, (Teresa) who were more like brothers, family friend, Hallie Davis, and a host of great and nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends, all whose lives she touched.
