Linda N. Ferrell Mayfield, daughter of Alford F. Ferrell and Essie L. Johnson Ferrell was born October 3, 1953, in Lena, Mississippi.
Linda graduated from Harry E. Wood High School as a member of the Class of 1972. She continued her education at Marian University, earning a technical certificate as a pharmacy technician.
In the fall of 1977, Linda became a member of Greater Sanders Temple Church of God In Christ, where she was born again and received the Holy Ghost. A true believer and follower of the Lord, she was committed to living as the gospel required. Linda remained faithful to her church and sought, above all, to please the Lord.
Linda began working at S.S. Kresge while still in high school and later joined Kmart Corporation, where she dedicated more than forty years of service. Throughout her years at Kmart, she was known for her professionalism and for the care and respect she showed to customers and coworkers alike.
Linda was genuinely sweet and kind-hearted, always ready to help in any way she could. She also had a rare gift for listening—never too busy to talk, and compassionate no matter the subject.
As a sister, she was the glue that held our family together. In the later years of her life, Linda devoted herself to caring for our father, mother, and brother as they faced life-threatening illnesses. She provided medical care, daily support, and steady compassion.
Linda was an excellent cook and often took the lead in preparing large family meals. Everyone loved her cooking—especially the incredible dressing she made so well.
Linda enjoyed many hobbies, including writing, photography, and antiquing. She collected porcelain figurines—especially elephants—and she had a flair for fashion. She also loved to journal. One notable story she wrote was entitled Little Elephants in The Room, inspired by the incredible curiosity of her youngest grandson, Kardiere. She was the best of all of us.
Linda departed this earthly life on March 11, 2026 at the age of seventy-five. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Richard Jones.
She leaves to cherish he memories her children, Christopher Jones and Kimberly Mayfield; grandchildren, Amante Jones, Richard Jones III, Christopher Jones Jr., D’Christian Members, Cyncere Jones, and Kardiair McGill; and host of other family member and friends.
