Lacy Eugene Boyd, Jr. was born August 11, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky to the union of the late Lacy Sr., and Vernell Boyd. In that union were five (5) children: Nadine, Benita, Lacy Jr., Martina, and Marlene.
At a young age, Lacy spent a lot of time with his maternal grandmother, Gertrude Reed. With that upbringing he was raised in the church. He attended Christ Temple Christian Life Center in Louisville, Kentucky where he accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Lacy attended Dan C. Byck Elementary and Russell Junior High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a proud graduate of Louisville Male High School where he was in the band, the ROTC and participated in the football program.
After graduation, Lacy served in the US Navy as a Radioman (which is now known as an Information System Technician) in
1968-69. He was honorably discharged due to an adverse event.
Lacy married Donella Robinson Boyd on March 31, 1974. Together they had three sons, Lacy Jr., Lavon and Anthony Bowers. He was a devoted husband and father and gave of himself in every aspect of his life. He enjoyed being a soccer coach to his sons.
Lacy accepted a position at Western Electric in Louisville, Kentucky where he worked for several years before moving on to work at Xerox Corporation. With Xerox Corporation, the family was relocated to Leesburg Virginia, Dallas Texas, and then on to Indianapolis, Indiana. After leaving Xerox he became a Realtor with F.C. Tucker. He has also been an educator at Indiana Wesleyan and St. Francis Hospital.
Lacy had a lifelong pursuit of education and earned a Bachelor of Science for Business Information from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Masters of Science in Health Informatics from Indiana University.
Lacy enjoyed fishing, reading, yardwork, and spending the day relaxing on his pontoon on the lake. He was also drawn to children and could become a child himself when playing with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews.
God has been good to the family as a provider, and a keeper allowing Donella and Lacy to travel the world and providing everything their hearts desired.
Lacy was a faithful servant and member of Light of the World Christian Church for over thirty years. During his time at Light of the World he served as a Vice President of the Church Council, a member of the choir, the men’s ministry, and a servant leader of the Diaconate. Lacy was dedicated to the church and served faithfully to the end.
Lacy Eugene Boyd, Jr. transitioned from this life on November 28, 2025, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his son, Lavon Maurice Boyd, his parents, two sisters, Nadine K. Boyd and Benita J. Tinker. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-one years, Donella Robinson Boyd; two sons, Lacy Eugene Boyd, III (Brandy); and Anthony Eugene Bowers; sisters, Diane Pleasant (Novis) and Marlene Bennett; brother-in-law, Roger Tinker Sr.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Lacy’s legacy of love, the faith and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
