Kenneth Woods was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 10, 1939. He was the 9th child of the late Mr. Ira C and Mrs. Ervia O. Woods.
He received his education through the Indianapolis Public School System attending Schools #56 and #37. Kenneth graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. He was employed at Allison’s Transmissions and Distribution, retiring in 2006 with over 40 years of service.
Kenneth accepted Christ at an early age and was currently a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. He truly loved his church! He did more than just attend Sunday services. He was an active member of the Male Chorus and the church Usher Board. He also enjoyed planning various church events and programs and would work hard to make sure everything went smoothly, down to the last detail.
On March 11, 1995, Kenneth married Joyce Dalton who was the love of his life. They spent many happy years together doing the things they both loved to do, which included traveling and shopping. He also loved fishing, listening to music, dancing and singing. Kenneth enjoyed being with family and was the self-appointed activities director. The family, and friends who became family, spent many hours playing board games, dancing and reminiscing. His quiet laughter was contagious!
Kenneth Woods made his transition on Thursday, August 24, 2023, peacefully at home. Kenneth had one son, Kenneth Jr., who preceded him in death. Others who passed before Kenneth in addition to his parents included his sisters, Mary Barnett, Odessa Shobe and Gladys Woods, and brothers Robert, Roy, Eddie, Morris, Early and Richard Woods.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Joyce Woods; brothers, Harold, Ronald (Deidre) and Donald Woods of Indianapolis; daughter, Jacqueline (Carl Anthony) Gibbs of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Deondra Woods; grandchildren Natasha Woods, Kenneth Woods III, Payton Leach and Cameron Leach; great-grandchildren Ava and Lena Woods, nieces, nephews and a host of family members and friends.
Kenneth was loved by all who knew him, and he will truly be missed.
