KEITH NEWSON Obituary

Keith Earl Newson was born January 8, 1961, to Nadine Sloan and Eddie Newson in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was raised by his mother, Nadine, and stepfather, Robert Franklin.

Keith gave his life to Christ at an early age at South Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. He had a profound belief and relationship with God and displayed an exemplary amount of faith and trust in the Lord. Seeking additional spiritual knowledge, Keith was currently studying the Jehovah’s Witnesses doctrine with his son, Keith, Jr.

Keith attended Indianapolis public schools and was not a fan of traditional learning or conventional education, therefore he did things by Keith’s method “learning on his own, and in his own way.”

In December 1979, Keith enlisted in the United States Military at the age of 18-years. Having joined the United States Armed Forces, he was a member of the United States Army as a PV1. Departing from ADT (Active Duty for Training) with an Honorable Discharge.

Keith later returned to Indianapolis, and began working various maintenance jobs, Dimension Development Co., G&B Hotel Employee Leasing LLC and DBA as Hilton-Indianapolis just to name a few. Keith was known as a “Jack of all Trades” and loved to do individual jobs. He was very talented and LOVED his tools. You could find Keith doing all types of maintenance jobs which included painting, laying flooring, plumbing, hanging cabinets and even working on cars. If you asked anyone, they would attest, “Keith can do it all!”

Keith was an introvert and rather quiet soul. He loved sitting on the porch, talking to his neighbors, smoking his Black and Mild cigars, and could be found holding his red cup sipping a little before he got sober in August of 2019. With God’s help and completing treatment at Tara Treatment Center Keith “NEVER” took another drink. Keith loved watching “The Walking Dead” and zombie movies. He also loved watching his favorite television show “The First 48.” Keith was a natural comedian and would keep you laughing without even trying, and of course he loved the Ladies. Keith could be found playing his keyboard at all hours of the day and night. A list of a few artists was found, assuming he must have loved listening to Skylar Simone, Sonika Mckie and     Calvin Richardson.

Keith was a loving father, papa, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He had a unique and strong bond and lived for his two grandsons Kayvion and Kayden, and they meant the world to him. He was Uncle Keith to his nieces and nephews and everyone he met just loved him.

Keith Earl Newson departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the age of sixty-five and 51 days. Keith was preceded in death by his grand-parents, Minnie and Felix Cross, and Willie Mac Bogu; fathers, Eddie Newson and Robert Franklin; sister, Valerie Johnson, and brothers, Terry (Bobby) Bell, Ricky Newson and Tony Newson.

Keith leaves to cherish his loving memory, his son, Keith E. Newson, Jr., (Wangari); mother, Nadine Franklin; grandsons, Kayvion L. Newson and Kayden K. Newson; longtime companion, Vanessa Riggs; siblings, Steve Sloan (Sue), Andy Sloan, Dennis Abernathy (Loretta), Frank Sloan (Ann), Carlene Heeter (Kevin), Jeffery Newson, Carl Franklin (Michele), Gary Franklin (Lakesha), Cheryl Newson, Holly Dotson (Vernon), Cheryl Starky, Brian Newson, Michael Newson (Patsy), Larry Newson, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, one aunt, two uncles, and a   multitude of family and friends.
