On Saturday May 24, 2025, sweet sleep escorted our beloved Karen Charrise Merriwether to the place that she called home, on that day her dream became a reality, and woke up in heaven. Our beloved sister, no longer live by faith, now she is living by fact.
Karen Charrise was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Louis and Katie Merriwether, she leaves behind her dear brother, Gregory Louis Merriwether and sister, Linda Scott. She also had a sister-in-love, Laquila (Kiwi) Hobson and a brother-in-love, Thomas Cox.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and God used her as an instrument of songs, she began singing with her grandmother Mama Lula, who was also a singer.
Karen Charrise was a lifelong member of Progressive Baptist Church. She served both in the youth and adult choir and finding herself doing leads. As her musical gift mature, you could find Charrise a.k.a. “ReRe”, accompanying her pastor and dear friend Michael K. Jones, from home-going celebrations through-out the city, to the Jazz Kitchen. She also served as an Administrative Assistant, and other duties she took pride in.
When her health began to decline, as she finding herself in and out of the hospital and rehab, she birthed a new ministry by texting anywhere from sixty to seventy people individually, (amazing) daily sweet words of encouragement. That will truly be missed!
Those who knew and loved Charrise express how they will miss such a devoted friend, that caring spirit, being always there, and that beautiful God given voice of songs.
She leaves to cherish wonderful memories: her adopted nieces, nephews, dear cousin, dear friends. and her beloved dog, Maxine.
