Josephine Allen was born on February 13, 1935, to the late Thomas Dixon and Mary Jackson in Phenix City, Alabama. She was one of sixteen children.
Josephine attended South Girard High School in Phenix City, Alabama. She later entered the work force in Columbus, Georgia at Mechanics Laundry. In addition, she worked as a cook.
Josephine relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1961. It was in Indianapolis that she met Nathan Allen, and they were later united in Holy Matrimony on October 31, 1972.
Having professed a belief in Christ, Josephine, had an active church life at Mt. Vernon Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Rev. Dr. Mozel Sanders. She was a member of the choir and Nurse’s Ministry. She was also a foster grandparent under the direction of Reverend Ronald Covington, Sr. the pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Josephine Allen departed this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 27, 2025. God blessed us to share in Josephine’s life and be a part of her life story. God called her home at the age of ninety years, nine months, and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Dixon; mother, Mary Dixon; thirteen siblings; son, Dennis Dixon and grandson, Marlon Kimbrough.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her homegoing to her two daughters, LaTrella Wright and Denise Dxion; two sisters, Dorothy Mayle and Mabel Dixon; one brother, Roy Dixon; one grandson, Maurice Deurson, Sr.; five great-grandchildren, Maurice, Jr., Maukryce, Kobe, Kamuria, and Amauri, and a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends.
