JEANNIE (WALKER) SHELTON Obituary

Jeannie Marie (Walker) Shelton was born in Forrest City, Arkansas on December 10, 1945, to the late Darnell and Corena Walker. She was married to Charles B. Shelton for 60 years and they were blessed with six children.

Jeannie was a selfless servant leader for over 60 years, who was committed to the community she loved. One of her proudest accomplishments was serving as the Executive Director of Carver Community Action Agency and the Boys and Girls Club.  She was a lifelong member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. where she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age.  Jeannie was a member of the choir and served as a Trustee, Steward and the Women's Mission Board.  Jeannie was full of life and lived it to the fullest. Jeannie loved spending time with her family and making lifelong memories celebrating birthdays, graduations and holidays.  She cared more about others than herself and never met a stranger.  She ceased every opportunity to pour into and encourage everyone she met.

Jeannie departed this earthly life, Saturday May 10, 2025, at the age of seventy-nine years.  She was preceded in death by her parents Darnell and Corena Walker, brothers; Cassell and Charles Page, sisters; Bennie Ruth Congress and Ann Johnson, half-sister, Willie Nell Agnew.

On Saturday, June 28th there will be a Celebration of Life ceremony at 11:00am-1:00pm with visitation from 10:00am-11:00am at Bethel Baptist Church 1196 N. Academy in Galesburg, Illinois.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Shelton; her daughters, Yolanda (Edward) Sanders , Lisa  (John)Chavis, Joan Shelton and Jean (Joseph) Joyce; sons, Charles A. Shelton, Eric Shelton and Melvin Dickerson; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
